Structural Snowy Hydro 270t

Westlake Punnett & Associates Pty Ltd were engaged by All-Ways Rigging Gear on behalf of Snowy Hydro to re-certify this 270t WLL steel box girder beam for utilisation in the Murray 2 Power Station. Westlake Punnett were involved in the entire project from receipt of the existing defective beam until, through the implementation of remedial works and up to certification.

The scope of work entailed the following:

  • Inspect the beam and assess the condition.
  • Engage with a team of consultants in conjunction with All-Ways Rigging Gear including welding inspectors and testing professionals to aid with the assessment of the existing beam and the identification of its mechanical properties. This included:
    • Vickers Hardness Testing of material samples.
    • Chemical Composition Testing of material samples.
    • Magnetic Particle Testing of the existing beam surface
    • Blue Bearing and Machined Tolerance Testing.
    • Ultrasonic testing of remediated butt welds to 100%.
  • Undertake a thorough analysis of the beam and its componentry.
  • Witness and attend inspections at hold points and sign off on ITPs.
  • Obtain third party analysis and certification in accordance with AS4991.
  • Manage and collate all consultant information and provide final written certification report for the 270t WLL.
